Communication between leaders and their teams has often been referred to as the biggest de-motivator of staff. This seems a little harsh but still gives us something quite serious to think about. Communication with subordinates is a delicate issue and should not be entered into without some consideration of what the leader actually wants the outcome to be. It is well known that each person is different and responds to different methods of communication. Some consideration of the method of communication is also vital. To achieve this we need to understand what the aim is, and how each person will best receive the message and continue to be motivated in order to achieve the required result. The training activity addresses this issue by showing that individuals in a team may react in different ways to the same method of communication.
The group nominate a guide to lead them on a money-making venture. Members of the group are blindfolded, and then must collect a number of balls that are scattered around them and place them in a basket at the edge of the working area. The group is led by the guide, who is not blindfolded.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers, outdoors, to enable participants to build and improve their team working skills with excellent planning, co-ordination and communication whilst under pressure and blindfolded.
