How often do we just ‘dive into’ tricky, one-to-one situations, without considering the consequences of our actions? To what extent can we plan for positive outcomes and avoid provoking conflict? This training activity is an opportunity for the participants to identify and practise using a process to achieve good results and avoid possible conflict in one-to-one situations.

Following a brief introduction to the purpose of the training activity, the participants identify a colleague with whom they have a potential conflict. They plan how to manage their next encounter with this colleague and then, in pairs, practise their plan of action while their partner role-plays their colleague. The pair then reviews the plan and, joining with another pair, identify a process for getting good results and consider to what extent planning can help to minimise conflict. This work in fours is followed first by a short feedback session to identify a possible process and then your input offering a process. The training activity closes with the participants completing a learning log to implement their learning and plan for good results.

Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to give participants the opportunity to identify and practise using a process to achieve good results and avoid possible conflict in one-to-one situations, and avoiding the temptation of ‘diving in’ without considering the outcomes.
