Setting standards is not the whole answer to achieving high performance. Action planning, in order to achieve the standards, is essential. It is vital that both you and the staff member have a clear, agreed plan to work to. This training activity introduces several action planning tools and invites managers to be creative in identifying options for action.
You introduce the purpose of the training activity and the planning process and follow this with a brief input on the Pareto principle. You move on to an exercise on creative thinking and questions to use to generate ideas, followed by a (hopefully) creative presentation by fellow participants. Next, you ensure that participants are familiar with SWOT analysis and introduce the action planning exercise, which participants complete individually and review in pairs. The training activity closes with participants reviewing what the exercise tells them about themselves as managers and your re-emphasis on the value of creative thinking and action planning.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants understand action planning for high performance – plan it, do it and review it; and to introduce creative thinking and SWOT analysis.
