To ensure that the participants don’t just talk about but act on the knowledge learned in the training sessions, it is important that time is spent developing action plans. If the purpose of knowledge management is to add value, increase competitiveness, create business opportunities and increase profit, then the learners need to be planning to share their knowledge with others and change the way they do things. This training activity is about participants reviewing their learning and developing action plans that they can take back to their places of work.

You begin this training activity with an input on the importance of developing action plans. You then ask the group to split into review pairs or threes according to group size and time available. The participants interview each other using a pro forma supplied that is filled in between the ‘client’ and the ‘interviewer’. This pro forma focuses on ways of reviewing their learning on the event. Then, you ask individuals to extract the learning from the interview, and identify an action plan for utilising and communication their knowledge. Participants then work in syndicates to share their action plans, encouraging other participants to be supportive in enhancing their plans. Finally, run a review that identifies themes of knowledge sharing and action, reminding the participants to think about their culture and how best they can implement what they have learnt.
