An incident of difficult or aggressive behaviour has recognisable phases. This training activity introduces participants to a model that describes these phases and provides an opportunity for the participants to reflect back on incidents they have experienced, either directly or indirectly, and apply the model to that incident.
You very briefly introduce the purpose of the training activity; then you invite the participants to consider incidents of difficult or aggressive behaviour that they have experienced to see if there is any recognisable pattern to them. The participants relate this pattern, to the extent that they are aware of it, and you summarise with a brief presentation of a model that describes the phases of an incident. The participants then work in small groups to identify the extent to which this model relates to their experiences and the extent to which they can see the use of the model for the future. The training activity ends with a brief feedback session and links in to the rest of your programme.
