Recognising and acknowledging our own successes can sometimes be quite difficult. Having a clear picture of what we are aiming for can be helpful in determining when we have reached our goals.

This training activity begins with a brief introductory puzzle in which participants use the right side of their brain, they then use artwork to depict their models of a ‘good learner’. They analyse these drawings to draw out the key skills, abilities and qualities of good learners. Participants then use a self-assessment learning log to complete the activity.

Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to give an outline of how a ‘good learner’ demonstrates their competence so that participants can model this behaviour.

Resource Type:Activity

Resources: View standard resources for Fenman training activities
Additional resources: A good supply of cocktail sticks (12 per participant).

Purpose: This training activity is primarily to define a model for good learners as part of a learning to learn programme. It can easily be used to define other models of good practice by changing the subject for the drawings to, for example, ‘good managers’.
