Any change involves some element of risk. Team leaders will be frequently managing change processes and need to be aware of their own attitude to taking risks and the implications this may have for their team. Encouraging risk-taking gives the opportunity for learning and development for both the team leader and their team.
A fun, creative exercise introduces the idea of risk-taking and consequences. Participants use self-assessment to explore their own attitude to taking chances and then work in pairs to consider the implications for their teams. Real work situations are used for participants to explore their use of risk-taking, and groups generate ideas for action where people have tried but, so far, been unable to make changes. Individuals complete a learning log to record any changed attitude to risk-taking and proposed actions back in the workplace.
