Attendance management is about making sure that staff come to work, rather than tackling absence as a specific problem. Absence is a negative concept, whereas attendance is positive. The aim of the training activity is to make participants think of ‘attendance’ rather than ‘absence’.
You begin this training activity with a brief introduction explaining the structure of the session, the participants work in groups to discuss the differences between attendance and absence. You then lead a plenary session to summarise the differences and draw the conclusion that managing attendance is more positive than managing absence. The participants then review their own organisations to see whether they are managing attendance or absence. Finally, you summarise the training activity, answering any questions the participants may raise.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to focus participants on attendance rather than absence and uses exercises to create positive models of attendance rather than negative models of absence.
