This training activity covers the second stage of the recruitment and selection process – the job advert. The job advert must maintain the objectivity of job and person specifications from the first stage. Earlier laws on discrimination applied to job adverts, and this is also true of more recent age discrimination laws.

This training activity helps participants to recognise that job adverts should attract the widest range of suitable applicants and that legislation must be considered when wording, designing, and placing adverts.

Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers acting as facilitators, but managers, coaches, colleagues or consultants can readily facilitate this training activity.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants to recognise that job adverts should attract the widest range of suitable applicants and that anti-discrimination legislation can have an effect on the wording, design, and placement of adverts. Participants review an advert and identify the implications of age-discrimination legislation when advertising vacant posts. This training activity makes an effective follow-on from ‘Effective recruitment and selection’.
