Ask the participants if they have been involved in setting up interviews within their organisation. Explain that the disciplinary of grievance interview follows a logical process, and that this training activity involves producing an agenda for a typical interview.

This straightforward training activity requires participants to think about the stages of an interview. To help them do this, they are provided with cards containing the different stages, which they are then asked to put in order. Participants work in groups of three, one of whom takes the role of group leader. The trainer provides each group with a full set of cards and asks them to place them in the order they think would form an appropriate agenda. Once the groups have drawn up their agendas, the trainer debriefs the training activity to check understanding. This case requires very little experience or knowledge of disciplinary or grievance procedures, and can be used as a short introduction to the topic. This case study can also be used in conjunction with ‘Conducting a disciplinary interview’, which explores the behaviours that are appropriate at each of the stages of the interview.
