Sometimes staff who are absent through genuine medical problems can be reintroduced into the workplace more quickly by being offered alternative work. This training activity looks at the benefits of this and examines some of the options available to managers.
You begin the training activity by introducing the topic, and then ask participants to work in groups to discuss the benefits of alternative work and the options available. You lead a plenary session to review their ideas explaining the usefulness of alternative work and its importance as a part of an attendance management policy. The participants again work in groups in a series of case studies to gain practice in specifying alternative work. You take feedback on their solutions before summarising the training activity, reminding the participants of the key learning points.
