In order for a business to sell its products or services it has to identify the needs of the customer in order to match the relevance of what it offers. This means that its staff has to be skilled in recognising opportunities and making the customer feel comfortable with the purchase. A customer will buy if the business has what the customer wants and – even more importantly – if the sales people involved are perceived to have the credibility, in the customers’ eyes, to provide the product or service in the first place. This will be achieved by asking the right questions in order to identify the need before offering the solution confidently and enthusiastically. If the sales people fail to identify the correct need and provide a solution that fails to meet the need, they will not only lose the sale, but the business as a whole will lose credibility both now and the future. The training activity addresses this issue by showing that to get the information you need in the shortest space of time; you must ask the right questions.

Participants work as a team to identify an object. Each participant is provided with a component that is part of the whole object, but the group can only identify the components by asking the right questions. Each member of the team is allocated a number of counters, and these are spent with every question asked. The team must identify the whole object before running out of counters.
