Good attendance management is the key to preventing absence. It creates an environment where people remain healthy and motivated, and feel that attendance is a part of their organisation’s culture. This training activity aims to introduce the topic of attendance management and makes participants aware of its importance as a management tool in all organisations – large or small, public or private sector.
You begin this training activity with an introduction to the subject of attendance management with an open discussion. The participants work in groups to define the term and consider absenteeism: what it is and what it is not. You then lead a plenary session to review their ideas. Next, you explain some national statistics on attendance, which the participants then compare with statistics from their own organisations. They discuss their findings in small groups and present the results in a further plenary session. Finally, you identify the key points from the training activity, emphasising the benefits of attendance management for any organisation.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants define what absence is and what it is not. It looks at national facts and figures and asks participants to compare their own organisation’s performance.
