There are some teams that have a high need to be perceived as right. They tend to develop Groupthink and stick to tried and tested methods, even when it’s clear they need a fundamental shift in thinking. They don’t notice significant changes in the business environment until it is too late. The emotionally intelligent team will look outwards as well as inwards. To succeed, teams need to be aware of their own functioning and stage of development. In addition, they need to be able to discern the changes in the environment that will affect the way they function.
After giving examples of change, you introduce the concept of reactive and awakened teams. Using the Samoan circle facilitation process the group explore their hopes and concerns about change. Participants go on to assess their emotional maturity level and domains of experience. They also analyse the severity of change they are facing. You then use another Samoan circle exercise to explore the changes that will affect the group, and how they can build their capability to manage change in an emotionally intelligent way. Their conclusions are compared with John Kotter’s research.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to enable participants to experience how to look outwards and well as inwards, in order to be more able to manage significant change through their own increased emotional maturity levels.
