Members of a winning team need to be able to stand up for themselves – striking the right balance between being aggressive and submissive which is so important for the team’s success.
You open the training activity by reminding the participants of some of the main elements of assertive behaviour and how it compares with aggressive and submissive behaviours. The participants then work through an assertiveness questionnaire to test their understanding of what represents truly assertive behaviour. You then introduce some specific assertiveness techniques and the participants practise these for a series of case studies. The training activity closes with a summary of the key elements of assertive behaviour and with the participants stating how they intend to use their new-found techniques in their day-to-day working environment.
