This is an important training activity for any group who aim to perform better as a team or who want their own teams to perform better. It enables them to decide what qualities they most need to exhibit when working together, or which rules they should adopt in order to work more effectively. Once qualities and rules are agreed, they use coaching techniques to clarify their team goal and to ensure that each team member takes responsibility for doing their part to build a better team.

You have a discussion to help the participants decide which qualities and rules they want to develop or work to when they operate as a team. They then score their teams prime qualities, set goals for improvement and assess current reality for each quality. Working in pairs, the participants then complete a coaching exercise – to decide how to achieve the goals and what their personal contributions will be. Finally, you review their decisions and agreements, and discuss how they will be applied in the workplace.
