This training activity illustrates the five stages that an effective coaching discussion needs to cover.
This training activity requires participants to identify the appropriate behaviour and communication skills needed for each of the five stages of an effective coaching discussion in the workplace. It has been designed to either stand alone or to be linked with ‘Developing your workforce’ and/or ‘Setting up a coaching discussion’.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers acting as facilitators, but managers, coaches, colleagues or consultants can readily facilitate this training activity.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to identify the appropriate behaviour and communication skills needed for each of the five stages of an effective coaching discussion in the workplace (identified and discussed in ‘Setting up a coaching discussion’). It helps the participants explore the skills needed at each stage to conduct an effective coaching discussion with an older, disillusioned member of staff. This training activity can also be linked with ‘Developing your workforce’.
