It is probable that any group of people working together will experience the feeling of competition whether this is acknowledged or not. In this training activity, small teams are deliberately placed in a competitive situation so that the issue can be examined.
You explain that the purpose of this training activity is to explore the idea of competitiveness in teams. After dividing the participants into teams of three or four, you give them a ‘route’ to follow and a time limit for the course. They encounter ‘checkpoints’ along the way where they have the opportunity to gain extra points. The team with the most points wins. You then debrief the participants on the results of the exercise and encourage them to examine the issue of competitiveness in the workplace and how best to handle it as a team member and a team leader.
Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to help participants experience a competitive situation and to examine issues of competition in team and how to deal with it.
