In many situations team members have their own ideas on how to do a task or solve a problem. Such differences need not be negative. Indeed, if they can be brought together and the best parts extracted from each, then the final solution can often be very effective – and it has the ‘ownership’ of all the team members.

In a team, participants plan how to design a garden for a station within limits of finance and the space available. The participants need to demonstrate lateral thinking and communication skills, as well as planning and consensus, to involve all the members of their team when carrying out the exercise. At the end of the task, a representative of the team makes a presentation of the team’s recommendations. The training activity ends with a debrief involving all the participants.
