How we make ourselves understood in a group or team is vital to the smooth functioning of our role and to the success of the group as a whole. In this training activity, participants describe unusual diagrams to the rest of the team, with restrictions on how they can communicate, they then analysis which is the most effective method.
This training activity starts with six participants describing an unusual diagram to the rest of the group, who must draw each diagram from the description given. The ‘describers’ are given different constraints on how they can communicate and must follow these during their description. When all the diagrams have been described and drawn, the group analyses the success and effectiveness of the different methods of communication. They then reflect on their experiences of communicating to groups in their workplace. In small groups, participants analyse situations from their workplace and choose one person to role-play one of these situations in a different way from the original description. The group feeds back on the effectiveness of this new method of communication.
Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to help participants practise different methods of conveying information and to discover the important of making ourselves understood in group situations.
