We all have skills for dealing with difficult and aggressive behaviour; however, at times, some ‘block’ in ourselves prevents us from using our skills effectively. This training activity provides an opportunity for participants to identify their personal blocks and to consider how to manage them so that they can use their skills more effectively, more of the time.

You introduce the purpose of the training activity and lead in to the exercise. The participants depict themselves, in whatever way feels appropriate for them, dealing with difficult and aggressive behaviour, noting their ‘blocks’ and them working in pairs to consider how to manage or minimise their blocks. As a whole group, the participants reflect on the experience of doing the exercise and discuss strategies to manage or minimise their blocks.

Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to help participants to use visual images to identify their personal blocks to remaining effective in dealing with difficult and aggressive behaviour and then move on to plan how to manage and minimis
