This training activity is part of the third stage of the recruitment and selection process – conducting interviews. Interview questions must be designed to test a candidate’s ability to perform the job which was detailed in the job advert and in any supporting documents provided. Just as earlier discrimination law applied to interviews, so does the more recent legislation on age discrimination.

This training activity helps participants to recognise the importance of using questions directed towards determining a candidate’s ability to meet the job requirements. It demonstrates the need to avoid intentional and unintentional unlawful discriminatory questions, and shows the implications that age-discrimination legislation has for the types of question which can be asked.

Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers acting as facilitators, but managers, coaches, colleagues or consultants can readily facilitate this training activity.
