This straightforward activity requires participants to think about what should be included in an effective disciplinary procedure, and to separate good points from bad. Participants are provided with cards containing statements, from which they have to choose those which contain useful information on effective disciplinary procedures. Participants then use this set of cards to identify the constituents of good disciplinary procedures.

This is a straightforward training activity that requires participants to think about what should be included in an effective disciplinary procedure, and to separate good points from bad. To help them do this, they are provided with cards containing statements, some which contain information on effective disciplinary procedures, and others which do not. After sorting the cards into the two categories (useful and not useful), participants feed back the constituents of good disciplinary procedures, using information from the set of cards. Participants work in groups of two to four people. The trainer provides each group with a full set of cards and takes feedback, to ensure that each group has correctly identified the useful set of cards. The trainer then debriefs the activity to check understanding. This case requires very little experience or knowledge of disciplinary procedures, so it can be used as a short introduction to the topic.
