Sexual harassment is publicised more and more because of the suffering of individuals who experience it, and because the organisation image provides a good story for the media. The increasingly diverse workforce and changing attitudes to equal employee harassment has become a business issue. A cultural environment where employees feel they can express their problems and feelings without feeling threatened or victimised is needed in all organisations and the competition between organisations may mean that only those who are acknowledging this will succeed.
You begin this training activity with a definition of sexual harassment and look at types of sexual harassment. The participants study several examples of sexual harassment incidents in the workplace and consider what action they would take. They also examine the needs of the victim and what an organisation should provide. A sexual harassment interview exercise involves the participants in understanding how to handle such interviews. The final exercise asks the participants to reflect on what they could do as managers to minimise problems of sexual harassment. You close the training activity with a brief review of the key learning points.
