Frequently, organisations are faced with valuable employees contemplating leaving the organisation as a result of not being able to combine their personal circumstances or motivations with standard working arrangements. This activity examines alternative career arrangements, such as part-time working, self-employment, and so on, in conjunction with working with the company.

An introductory exercise looks at working arrangements that exist in today’s organisations and asks participants to re-evaluate their own working arrangements. They then examine the concept of flexible working and the external factors that bring about organisational transformation. They discuss what happens in other organisations by reviewing their pre-activity preparation work. Next, the participants look at workload planning by studying examples of different options, how to plan resources, and forecast workloads. Following this, they explore the motivations, values and career paths of their employees. This involves the use of counselling skills and counselling tools. A final review looks at the two main aspects of flexibility in the workforce that the participants have investigated in this training activity and the actions they would like to take as a result.
