What are the essential elements of an appropriate climate for learning and development? This activity provides an opportunity for participants to identify the extent to which their team climate is appropriate and any steps that need to be taken to promote a more positive climate. In addition to appropriate team climate, the current approach to learning in the team is important. Is it entirely reactive and incidental, to some extent reflective, or proactive? There is an opportunity for participants to identify their team's current situation and to plan for a more productive developmental future.
Participants start by depicting their team's current climate for learning and development and then identify the elements of the climate that promote or resist learning. The trainer then briefly introduces the purpose of the activity, and makes a short presentation summarising the essential elements of a positive climate for team learning and development. Participants then assess their own team's climate. The training activity continues with participants working in four groups; each group, in turn, presents a brief 'drama' to the rest of the participants to describe four different approaches to learning; the training activity ends with the completion of a learning log.
