The mind and body are inextricably linked together and affect each other. Sensory acuity is the observation and interpretation of body language in order to gain a better understanding and insight into the thoughts, feelings and behaviour of others. In the workplace, communications is a constant process. When we speak, 55% of our message is being conveyed via our physiology or body language. When we are not speaking, 100% of our ‘message’ about how we are thinking or feeling is being transmitted by our body language. Hence, by learning to observe and accurately interpret body language, our communications skills are much enhanced, we attain a greater understanding of others, and improve our own influencing skills.
This is a very interactive training activity in which participants will discover for themselves how the mind and body affect each other. Firstly, they will experience the difficulty of trying to generate a state of mind incongruent with their own body language. They will then go on to observe and decipher the body language of others, advancing to determining how someone else is thinking by copying their body language. Finally, a mismatching exercise illustrates the importance of empathetic body language in communication.
