At the start of any training programme you will want to set the tone. This should be participative, with learners using their own experiences and being responsible for their own learning. Recognising their prior learning and offering theoretical models and opportunities to link learning to implementation in the workplace are key elements. This training activity gives participants a chance to start to get to know each other, to clarify their learning needs and to agree ways of working for the programme.
You and the participants introduce yourselves to one another. You introduce the programme and its purpose. The participants work in small groups to clarify what they want to learn and this forms the group learning contract. The training activity ends with the development of a group contract for behaviour and the establishment of ground rules.
Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers with courses participants to get to know each other and establish the climate for the rest of the programme. You may introduce the optional learning log, for participants to record what happened, what
