Restructurings, reorganisations, downsizing, expansion, mergers – large-scale organisational change is commonplace. What’s rare is for the people on the receiving end of that change process to say, ‘Yes, I’m very satisfied with the way the changes were led and managed’. This training activity provides participants with a few pointers to help them when leading change that is large-scale more effectively.

By drawing on their experiences of being on the receiving end of poorly led change, participants draw up their own model for leading change. They compare this model with what the experts say about leading change and road-test it by applying it to a real-life situation.

Who is it for: This leadership training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants consider the characteristics of poorly led change, and to then identify the key things any leader must do well when successfully leading large-scale organisational change.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers in a leadership development programme. It can be used before participants do ‘Why have a vision’, and ‘Finding your vision’, as a way of emphasising the importance of having a vision, rather than just engaging in change for change’s sake. Alternatively, it can be used after these vision training activities to equip participants with some of the skills they will need when implementing the vision and leading change successfully.
