For networking to be successful, it is necessary for the participants to step outside their present comfort zones of contacts and acquaintances. They need to communicate with different people both internally and externally. This training activity looks in a creative way at where these contacts might be found.

The training activity opens with a brief introduction about the value of networking to departments and organisations. The participants work in small groups to brainstorm ideas about where they could meet and make networking contacts, and then discuss their ideas in plenary session. They prioritise their suggestions, then, for chosen areas, the participants draw a poster illustrating what has to be done, when, with whom and all the practical implications. After displaying their posters and discussing their ideas with others the participants choose the most beneficial ones to transfer to their own action plan.
