Fraud can take place at many levels in an organisation, from the stealing of paper-clips to stealing millions, and is a common cause of disciplinary action. This training activity uses fraud cases as a basis for practising the essential skills needed to manage the appeals procedure and to develop general guidance for good practice in managing any disciplinary procedure.
After a brief introduction to the purpose of the training activity, participants consider a number of scenarios and individually decide if they are cases of fraud and/or misconduct. Small groups then have to agree their decisions. Role-play is used to explore a fraud case study and give participants the opportunity to practise key skills for negotiation and presenting and making a case. Experiences from the role-play are used to develop ideas for general good practice in managing discipline. The training activity closes with participants completing a learning log to set an action plan for use back in the workplace.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants consider a range of scenarios dealing with fraud and possible incidents of gross misconduct.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers as part of a programme on managing discipline and grievance. It is most useful in the later stages of the programme when generic skills have already been introduced and practised. The training activity will also be useful as part of programmes on assertiveness training, developing business skills, leaderships skills, management development, negotiation skills, and problem solving and decision making.
