Managing stress is a skill and like many skills it is not something that can be acquired overnight. Managing stress takes time to learn, practise and implement. ‘Time’ is something that few people have nowadays. Everyone want ‘instant’ results; something that will work now. Fortunately, there are short-term strategies for managing stress which do bring temporary relief. It is experiencing the benefits of the short-term approach that often provides people with the incentive to learn the skills of the longer-term strategies they need for managing stress effectively.
This managing stress training activity begins with a short introduction, which gives the participants time to refresh their memories about the learning points from ‘Recognising stress’. Then, through a plenary instruction and discussion, you introduce the participants to short-term strategies for managing stress. In groups, they identify situations in which these strategies could be applied and go on to share their findings in a plenary session. Using a short illustration you highlight the importance and nature of long-term strategies for managing stress
