Conflict within teams is inevitable and healthy, so long as it is well managed. The key is to harness the conflict and use it positively before it becomes damaging to individuals and to organisational aims. This training activity enables team leaders to consider how to manage conflicts, how to create a climate where conflict is experienced as positive, and how to prevent negative conflicts.

After an introduction to the purpose of this training activity, the participants identify the positive and negative effects of conflict within teams. The participants then move on to consider what is going on in a given scenario, what they would like to achieve in the given situation, and how to achieve it. Following a review of this work, the participants identify the steps they can take to harness conflict within teams to ensure that it is managed positively. The training activity closes with the participants completing a learning log to review their own management of conflict in teams.
