One of the most effective ways of improving networking skills is by finding a role model who can mentor and give advice, guidance, ideas or inspiration to help in the development of skills required to network successfully.
After a brief introduction, the participants work through a series of exercises to examine the concept of mentoring and its benefits as regards effective networking. They begin by defining mentoring and mentors, who benefits from them and how mentoring is different from coaching, then go on to explore the relationship with a mentor. In the next exercise, the participants investigate the key stages of the mentoring meeting and their role as mentee before taking part in a role-play to simulate a mentoring session. They discuss how to choose a mentor and, in a final exercise, consider what action they plan to take and review their learning points.
