This training activity uses the model of being your own public-relations person in order to focus on what others need to know about what you do, and why that is valuable and important.

The training activity begins with a discussion about public relations and what the participants believe it to be. Before deciding on the key messages they want to communicate, the participants decide, in a group exercise, who their audiences are. They next look into what their audience want to hear, what they need to say and how to deliver their message to different audiences. The participants then have an opportunity to send out their core message to their target audience by means of a front-page news story. Finally, they review their newsletter exercise in a plenary session, and discuss when and where they might use such written messages in their work.
