This training activity explains that legislation on age discrimination can be compared to other attempts at ‘social engineering’, such as introducing seat belts – it will work best if people actively accept what the new legislation is trying to achieve, rather than merely comply with the law.

This training activity has been designed to be used on its own or at the start of any training and development course that introduces participants to the key facts and benefits surrounding age diversity. It makes a natural follow-up to ‘Making the business case’.

Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers acting as facilitators, but managers, coaches, colleagues or consultants can readily facilitate this training activity.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to give participants the opportunity to identify some of the common objections voiced against employing older or younger workers. The training activity provides them with a model and an opportunity to handle those objections effectively. It follows on naturally from ‘Making the business case’.
