Staff need organisational support in dealing with difficult and aggressive behaviour, both to minimise risks and to deal with the after effects of an incident. This training activity provides an opportunity to think through the necessary support and to plan how to achieve it.

This training activity begins with the participants working together to identify the current resources available to minimise the chances of an incident occurring, to minimise risks during an incident, and to cope with the after-effects of an incident. They move on to consider the resources needed and to plan how to obtain/achieve those resources.

Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to enable participants to identify what resources (equipment, policies and procedures) are available now, within their organisations, to minimise the risk of, and/or to cope with, difficult and aggres

Purpose: This training activity is intended for use by trainers as the penultimate activity on a programme on dealing with difficult and aggressive behaviour. It can also be used on programmes on coping with conflict, and managing violence. The training activity is designed to be used by groups of two or more staff from the same organisation. With minor adaptations, it can be used by sole representatives from an organisation. Ideally, you should be aware of how management will react to any requests and demands that result from this activity. Management needs to be willing to listen to the requests; if not, the participants will feel very deflated.
