How do you adjust to the future to establish the areas you should be focusing your attention?

You start the training activity by establishing that a central feature is not only to achieve results but to ensure that participants achieve the results that are central to the guiding principles of their organisation. You facilitate a series of exercises which establish the main purpose of their roles and their key areas of responsibility. This leads on to you introducing the benefits of having objectives that specify precisely how they intend to deliver in each of the key areas. Having identified the characteristics for effective goal setting, the final exercise involves each participant writing a SMARTER objective for their job which they can put into practice at work after the learning event. The exercise ends with a summary of the main points covered in the training activity.

Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to enable participants to establish in what areas of responsibility they should be focusing their attention.

Purpose: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to be used in the early stages of any development event that encourages managers to focus on their priorities. It does not depend on the participants having completed any previous activity but does provide the foundation for follow-on activities in delegation, time management, and appraising and disciplining staff. The activity can be used on a number of different types of training courses, for example, assertiveness skills, disciplinary interviews, introduction to management, performance appraisal, self-development, stress management, and time management.
