Managers have several different key roles, including managing resources, information, people, operations and quality. In order to achieve organisational objectives and to succeed, the performance of each staff member needs to be of the highest standard. This training activity provides an opportunity for participants to consider their ‘whole’ role and to identify where performance management fits within that; it also provides an opportunity to consider broad approaches to achieving high performance and their costs and benefits.
You introduce the purpose of the training activity and move directly to a consideration, in the whole group, of managers’ key roles and the place of staff in departmental, divisional, or team success. Next, participants work in small groups to consider possible approaches to achieving high performance and to placing these on a spectrum. Finally, participants consider the costs and benefits of the different approaches.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants examine management roles; considering broad approaches to achieving high performance and their costs and benefits.
