This training activity is one of two initial diagnostic sessions. Together, these two sessions form the basis of the future development that participants on any programme needs to sharpen and improve their presentation skills. In this training activity, participants are reminded of basic presentation principles. They have an opportunity to get to know one another and their current performance levels are assessed. They finish by creating a list of their presentation goals which are followed up in ‘How good are you now? (2).

You begin the training activity with an overview of the content of this activity and ‘How good are you now? (2)’. Participants then carry out their first performance by selling themselves in positive terms to their colleagues. After some brief feedback and an opportunity to begin developing their personal improvement goals, they prepare a presentation on the questions ‘Presentations – why bother?’ This is assessed using a tightly structured checklist. The training activity ends with the participants completing their improvement goals and a reminder of what will happen in ‘How good are you now? (2)’.
