Most presentations are more than just the presenter’s wise words. Audiences expect to leave with something tangible, as a permanent reminder. These materials are not an unimportant addition – they remain with each member of the audience and will probably be shown to and discussed with their colleagues. If the materials are shoddy, irrelevant or generally poor, then that’s the lasting message left with the audience. That can frustrate the objective of the presentation. This training activity looks at what presenters can do to add value to their presentation by creating interesting materials for their audience.
This is a straightforward training activity to run, although it does require a certain amount of preparation if it is to work well. You begin with a brief discussion with the participants about the need for and purpose of audience materials. You then give each participant a bundle of previously collected materials to analyse. They examine these and discuss them together to reach a consensus on what they like and dislike and what does not work. You help them compile a list of dos and don’ts for audience materials.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants to produce audience materials that add value and remain a lasting source of information long after the presentation is over.
