To achieve most goals in life, we need the cop-operation of others. A good rapport promotes co-operation, so rapport building is an essential skill to acquire in order to achieve success in any area of life. In a business context, rapport enhances working relationships and all aspects of communication, especially influencing skills. It is a very powerful tool to use in a sales situation, whether you are selling a product, a service or an idea. It is also effective as an interviewing technique, when its use can put others at their ease. Rapport occurs naturally at a subconscious level, driven by our innate desire to be liked. When you understand how this happens, you can opt to use these subconscious techniques at a conscious level to build rapport quickly and effectively.

This is a very interactive training activity during which participants will clarify their understanding of rapport and then approach it from the context of communication skills. Exercises to practise each new learning point are scheduled throughout the activity. Participants work in pairs and in groups of three or four to cover rapport building face4 to face, over the telephone, and in writing. Finally, the positive uses of rapport are explained and experienced with every participant completing their own action points checklist.
