John’s been quiet lately. Harry had a real sense of humour failure this morning. It’s unlike Val to use such colourful language … In ‘Understanding stress at work’ we established that stress is a reaction to pressure. Different people react in different ways. To manage stress in yourself or to be able to support others, it’s important to understand what happens when we are put under pressure and to be able to recognise the signs of stress.

You begin this training activity with a plenary instruction and discussion in which your participants learn about the cycle of response to pressure. In groups, they then identify signs of stress. Finally, in a plenary session, the participants discuss the implications this has for them in the workplace.
