Participants who have been coaching for a short time often find great value in reflecting on their experiences, sharing them with others, and getting a sense of perspective on their achievements and perceived weaknesses. This training activity is a review session, which works very well, in an informal setting. The casual atmosphere seems to add to the ‘Aha’ moments. It works will with participants reviewing any new skill or new situation but, for obvious reasons, we will focus on coaching skills.

You introduce the session and ask participants to share their experiences of coaching. You use the principle of the coaching circle to record their comments. The participants then discuss any issues brought up by the comments before coaching themselves on how to improve one aspect of their coaching technique. Finally, you lead a general discussion on the value and process of self-coaching.
