Rewarding good performance encourages it to continue. This training activity enables participants to identify the rewards they can give to people who attend work regularly, and also how they can ensure that those who are absent are not rewarded.
You start by introducing the subject and go on to ensure that participants realise the importance of rewarding (and not punishing) good attendance. The participants the work in groups to define ways of rewarding good attendance and also to identify ways in which good attendance can be inadvertently punished and poor attendance inadvertently rewarded. You then lead a plenary session to discuss their ideas and highlight some of the pitfalls of rewards and punishments. Next, the participants work individually to complete action plans to implement when they return to their work places. Finally, you review their ideas before summarising the key points of the training activity.
