At some point in our career we are all likely to face objectives that on the face of it seem almost impossible. We can choose to believe this and stand very little chance of achieving them, or we can choose to take full control of the situation and find a way. Often, a positive attitude is all we need to produce answers. However, we cannot rely on this alone. If we work in a team, our own objectives will have an impact on the performance of the whole team at some point, which means that our own objectives are actually the team’s objectives. If the whole team has an input in the process of planning how to achieve objectives, there are a number of benefits, for example: cover when we are away, sharing individual’s knowledge, benchmarking against previous experience, and creative thinking. In other words, ‘two heads are better than one’ or, ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’. This training activity addresses the issue by showing that even the most difficult objectives can be met if the team work as a unit to explore all possibilities and eliminate non starters.
As a team, participants study a case study about a fictional business. The case study provides information on how the business has got into its present situation. Participants must identify the weaknesses and provide potential solutions of how the business could improve on its current position.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to help participants work through a case study and present their findings, along with solutions to make a failing business more productive.
