Open the training activity by telling participants that failing to prepare thoroughly for a disciplinary meeting means preparing to fail!
In this training activity, participants consider how to prepare for a disciplinary meeting by brainstorming the key points that should be included in a briefing topic. To introduce the training activity, participants are reminded that ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail’, so a structured approach is necessary to ensure that nothing is left out. Participants need to use their common sense rather than previous experience, so this training activity is ideal for those with no previous training on disciplinary and grievance procedures. The training activity is carried out by participants working in groups of three or four. There are also instructions for an alternative use of the case study, with timings and a resource list, in the ‘Variation’ section.
