Confronting others with direct feedback, that is potentially damaging, needs to be handled with great care and sensitivity. A safe way to expose and resolve deep-seated, underlying feelings which may be harming effective long-term relationships is needed.
This very participative training activity which allows team members to bring to the surface and resolve any potentially damaging feelings in a safe and constructive environment by encouraging them to write comments to each other in the form of Valentines. The whole process is in six separate phases: briefing, sending, reflecting, exploring, responding, and reviewing, and the overall approach and timings are virtually identical whether you are using the first or second version.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers to encourage teams to give other teams honest and direct feedback on how they perceive each other, and how they might improve working relationships.

Purpose: This unit includes two variants of the same basic process. The first version can be used when groups of people ‘snipe’ at each other – perhaps making sarcastic comments or remarks which the intended target group never quite hear; when tensions arise between sections in the team which are never fully resolved; when other attempts at team-building have failed to clear the air and remove long-standing grumbles or deeply held views; or at any time when you feel the daily operational pressure is preventing people from resolving relationship issues which might eventually become critical. The second variant can be used when a team is basically sound but there are long standing issues which never seem to be resolved; or as part of a follow-up event to an earlier Valentines session (yes, believe it or not, people actually do ask to do the Valentines session again!).
