The vision a team has of itself and of its function is of primary importance to its effectiveness. In this training activity participants are asked to achieve a task that relies on a strong sense of team vision.

Start by explaining that the purpose of this training activity is to explore the issue of team vision. You then divide the group into two teams and give them a short, but powerful (and noisy!) task, whose success relies on a strong sense of team vision, that is, if they are not in agreement and act cohesively, they will not be able to convince the other team. After the task, you hold a debriefing session about the experience. Then, working in a plenary group and small groups, participants examine the issue of team vision in depth. They consider their own work situation and create strategies to form and develop a sense of team vision in their workplace.

Who is it for: This training activity is intended for use by trainers to enable participants to experience team vision and explore the concept of this.

Purpose: This training activity can be used in any team-building or team development event. This training activity needs slightly more space, so it is suggested that you take your team to an outdoor area, for example, the car park. It may also need some slightly unusual equipment, such as bamboo poles, plastic crates, bin liners, or string.
