Sometimes a team needs to call on a range of skills and organise itself in a hurry to carry out a task or set of tasks. This training activity does exactly that, by getting the team to plan for a team dinner.
You begin by explaining that members of a team often need to work independently for the good of the team, and that this requires monitoring what others are doing to avoid duplication of work. The participants are asked plan several things at the same time, in a narrow time limit. To succeed they have to organise themselves, allocate tasks or roles, and monitor progress. The exercise provides them with such a situation and puts pressure on the team by asking them to carry out a number of tasks in a short time. The participants debrief their team’s performance and the learning points are shared and discussed all together.
Who is it for: This training resource is intended for use by trainers as a short and fast-moving exercise where participants complete a number of tasks within a tight time limit.

Purpose: This training resource is intended for use by trainers and would be effective towards the end of teamwork course or programme. Although, in itself, it is not particularly difficult, it does require the participants to organise themselves very quickly as a team and monitor the performance of individual team members whilst working under pressure.
